Verdun, a Military City

The history of Verdun abounds with military efforts. Many Verdunites enlisted or took part in the war effort in some other way. Between 1939 and 1945, over 6300 Verdunites served in the armed forces or worked as volunteers in Canada's reserve army. Moreover, Verdunites rallied together to organize many fund-raising campaigns for the benefit of locals who had enlisted in the army.

The City also made its Auditorium available to the government's National Defence Department. The building was mainly used for the Royal Canadian Air Force. Nearly 300 aviators came to Verdun for their training.
