Monument du fort Rolland

Long after the death of François Lenoir, notary publics and local residents continued to call the vicinity “Fort Rolland.” And still today in the Lachine Borough, a district, a street and a commemorative monument facing Lake Saint-Louis recall this name from the past.

Military activity at Fort Rolland ceased in the 1710s, but fur trading continued there under those who came after Lenoir: the Couagne family, Magdelaine dite Ladouceur, Joseph Ducharme and his son Jean-Marie and, lastly, George Simpson.
