A moving shoreline
Over the centuries, the shoreline of the Point transformed. First, in 1821, work on the Lachine Canal started. Then, in 1854, work started to build the Victoria Bridge and the shops of the Grand Trunk Railway. They inaugurated a series of backfill projects which, along with the work on the Champlain Bridge, which started in 1955, and the work to build the Bonaventure Expressway, completed in 1968, completely re-shaped the Point.
