Many bird species

Depending on the time of the year, various bird species used this area of the islands as a migratory stopover or as nesting grounds. In addition to the great blue herons, the site is home to a growing number of great egrets and grey nesting herons.

Mallards, American wigeons, gadwalls and American black ducks, red-winged blackbirds and yellow warblers also nest in the heart of this sanctuary. During migratory periods, the area is home to several species of waterfowl, including the common golden-eye, the American black duck and Eurasian teal.
